Today we use lot of computers, mobiles, Tablets, Smartnotes, ebooks and whatever in digital world. But we all must use a pen in our life span.

History
For the first time in the world Ancient Egyptians had developed writing on papyrus scrolls when scribes used thin read brushes or reed pens from the Jauncus maritimus or sea rush. Reed pens continued to be used until the middle ages but were slowly replaced by quills in the 7th century. The reed pens were made from bamboo is still used in some parts of pakistan.

Types of pens

- Fountain pen
- Ballpoint pen
- Rollerball pen
- Felt tip pen
- Gel pen
- Stylus pen
Fountain pen uses water based liquid ink developed through a nib. A fountainnoen reservoir can be refillable or disposable. The disposable type is called an ink cartridge. Petrache poenaru and Robery William Thomson were the inventors of Fountain pen. After them many of them do lot of innovation in fountain pens and got patents. Among them Lewis Waterman was very famous. Today Fountain pens are often treated as luxury goods and sometime as status symbol

Ballpoint pen was invented by LaszloBiro, a Hungarian newapaper editor. The first patent for a ballpoint pen was issued on 30 October 1888 to JohnJ Loudwho was attempting to make a writing instrument that would be able to write “on rough surfaces — such as wood, coarse wrapping-paper, and other articles” which fountain pens could not. The concept of using a “ball point” within a writing instrument as a method of applying ink to paper has existed since the late 19th century. In these inventions, the ink was placed in a thin tube whose end was blocked by a tiny ball, held so that it could not slip into the tube or fall out of the pen.

Rollerball pens are pens which use ball point working mechanisms with water-based liquid or gelled ink, as opposed to the oil based viscous inks found in ballpoint pens. The ‘liquid-ink’ type rollerball pens were introduced in 1963 by the Japanese company OHTO.

Felttip pen ,marker pen, fine liner, flow maker or sign pen is a pen which has it’s own ink source and a tip made of porous, pressed fibres such as felt. Lee Newman patented a felt-tiooed marking pen in 1910. In 1926,Benjamin Paskach patented a fountain paint brush.

Gel pen uses ink in which pigmented is suspended in a water based gel. Because the ink is thick and opaque, it shows up more clearly on slick surfaces then the typical ink used in ballpoint or felt tip pens. In 1984, the first gel pens were produced by a Japanese corporation in Osaka, Japan. The first gel pen to be released commercially was the Ballsign 280.

Stylus pen were first used by the ancient Mesopotamians in order to write in cuneiform. They were mostly made of reeds and had a slightly curved trapezoidal section. In Western Europe styluses were widely used until the late Middle Ages. For learning purposes the stylus was gradually replaced by a writing slate. Modern day devices such as phones, tablets ,laptops can often be used with a stylus to accurately navigate through menus, writing notes, send messages etc..
